Majorca holidays have been common for the European tourist for many years. Situated in the Mediterranean sea close to its smaller cousins Majorca is has a vast array a fabulous activities to offer travelers. From the sun drenched beaches to all night discos and extreme sports Majorca has something for everyone. Majorca also happens to be one of the most revisited holiday destinations in Europe.
The sun and the surf beckon all likes of traveler. From the perpetual globe trotting backpacker to the all inclusive resort traveler Majorca will have accommodations for you. There are numerous guest houses, hostels, resorts, and lately ecotourism is becoming popular. There is an ever expanding list of things to do on the island of Majorca or you could just relax.
Along with the beauty of the beaches the interior of Majorca also has a lot to offer. Untouched by many of the island tourist on a Majorca holiday the interior is lush with semitropical foliage. There are the Serra de Tramuntana mountain ranges as well as many vineyards, olive and citrus orchards and traditional Spanish farms. Many have descried the interior of Majorca as a tropical Switzerland. It is a beauty to behold that is unfortunately missed by many tourist.
It is a blessing and a curse that so many tourist miss the true culture of Majorca. For those that find it, it is a treat and will make memories that last a life time. The culture and beauty off of the beaten path are one of the things that bring many people back to the island. For those that find the hidden Majorca it is also a blessing that it is still there. It is waiting to be discovered by the beach dwelling tourist but if it were found would it still retain its timeless charm. Until that decision is made for the island of Majorca I will continue to travel to the island and enjoy the endless secrets it holds.
As I said before there are some fabulous things to do in Majorca, here is just a couple of the things that are a must for new travelers:
Visiting the beaches. The Mediterranean is world famous for its Aquamarine water and its staggering beauty. Majorca is no exception to the rule. Many of the beaches are studded with cliffs and continue on for mile after mile of spectacular scenery. The best way to see the numerous beaches of Majorca is to simply explore. The island is big enough that you won’t be able to see it all in one trip so the best thing to do is escape the tourist and find out where the locals go. Ask around and steer off the beaten track.
Hike the highlands
A Majorca holiday would not be complete without hiking the highlands of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. There are many day hikes that can be finished in a few hours and will take you on a trip through some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe. There is no better way to spend a vacation than to hike your self weary in splendor then retire to the beach to relax your worn muscles. Hiking in Majorca can be strenuous but the elevations are not excessive.
Enjoy the Food
You cannot travel to an exotic location such as Majorca and not experience the fabulous island food. Spanish flavor with a tropical flare and hints of North Africa make this some of the best food in the world. Fresh virtually year round this is on of the best places to sample Paella. A delicious rice dish, with all manners of vegetable, meat and seafood. It is hard to mess up paella and the Majorcans have managed to master the dish. I tend to stay away from the beaten track restaurants and opt for the back alley traditional fare. It can be cheaper and more fun to dine with the locals.
To have a wonderful Majorca holiday work flexibility into your schedule and come to relax but have a good time. Majorca can be great for the weary traveler or the adventurer alike. One thing is certain and that is that you will make memories that will last a lifetime. Spain, and especially the islands have a way of pulling at the soul and beckoning you back for another Majorca holiday
